The Treaty for the establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) was adopted in February 2019, by the 32nd Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government. The AMA Treaty entered into force on 5th November 2021 upon the deposition of the 15th instrument of ratification at the African Union Commission. As of May 2026, 32 Member States have ratified the treaty.
